Join our talk on the 24th of October about Volodymyr Zahortsev (1944-2010), one of the key Ukrainian composers of the 20th century and one of the fathers of contemporary Ukrainian classical music.Despite a complicated personal story and harsh totalitarian cultural void, Zahortsev managed to be in the right time and in the right place. He became one of the students of an outstanding composer and teacher, Borys Liatoshynsky, who formed a famous informal student group - the Kyiv Avant-Garde of 1960s.The range of compositions of Volodymyr Zahortsev was wide. His works possess dominant aesthetic as well as stylistic trends of avant-garde, post-avant-garde, and neo-folklore. His pieces had success in the West as he managed to create music that was synchronized with contemporary Western music.
