Sometimes I see comments like “CELPIP is not transparent; why can’t I reach a specific level after multiple attempts?🤬” or “It’s all a cash grab; the test is not fair.” My response is always - “you just need help with doing well on the test itself.” In reality, the test is highly transparent. Let’s break it down 👇All Writing and Speaking tests are assigned to raters randomly by an online system. Your name is never shown - full anonymity is maintained at all times 🙈Your performance is not checked by one person. Each Speaking test is assessed by a minimum of 3 different raters. Each Writing test is assessed by a minimum of 4 different raters. They work independently and never see each other’s scores. If the grades they assign have a large discrepancy, your response will be re-evaluated by 2 benchmark raters - extremely experienced professionals who don’t see your previous results🧑‍🎓Raters don’t give a “feeling-based” score. They assess very specific dimensions - Content/Coherence, Vocabulary, Listenability or Readability, Task Fulfillment. Each dimension has clear performance levels with detailed descriptors. Raters look for evidence in your response that matches those descriptors.Finally, when a test taker is not happy with the results, you can apply to have your responses re-evaluated. And we have seen some success in doing so 💯.
