Update WhatsApp for iPhone with AI-Powered Writing Assistance
The latest beta version of WhatsApp for iPhone includes a new feature—writing assistance powered by artificial intelligence. This feature is already available on Android and appears in the app interface when the user types text in the message field. A pen icon replaces the sticker icon to indicate the availability of the AI assistant, which suggests ideas for improvement, rephrasing, and professional, fun, or supportive tones for messages, along with editing options. The user can choose one of three alternative phrasings or keep the original. Importantly, the recipient does not receive a notification about the use of AI.
Meta claims that the writing assistance operates on the same private data processing system as other AI tools in its products. By default, the feature is turned off and needs to be activated manually. Importantly, user data is not stored, messages are encrypted and processed anonymously, and chat history remains private.
This beta feature, delivered via TestFlight, does not yet have specific timelines for a full launch. However, given the rapid adoption of AI tools, it is likely to become available to more users in the near future.
