Parts of Speech and Word FormsThis post is particularly helpful for those aiming for CLB 4 or 5. Did you know that mixing up word forms can seriously hurt your chances of success? 😓Using the wrong form - like saying productivity when you mean productive - negatively impacts your score in both Writing and Speaking. Furthermore, understanding how suffixes change a word's meaning will significantly improve your Reading and Listening scores. ✍️First, let’s break down the 4 most important parts of speech:1. Nouns: Names of things, places, ideas, or people.2. Verbs: Actions or states of being.3. Adjectives: Words that describe nouns.4. Adverbs: Words that describe, you guessed it, verbs. If you know just one "base" word, you can often create three more just by changing the suffix. The result? You perform better on every part of the CELPIP test. 📈Common Suffixes:• Noun: -ment, -tion, -ence, -ity, -ance, -ness• Verb: -ate, -ize, -ify, -en• Adjective: -able/-ible, -al, -ive, -ic, -ed/-ing• Adverb: -lyExample: The word Society is a noun.Add -al: Social (Adjective)Add -ize: Socialize (Verb)Add -ly: Socially (Adverb)💬 Practice in the comments! Can you change these nouns into verbs, adjectives, and adverbs?1) Consistency2) Creativity3) SuccessAs always, good luck with your test!
