ChatGPT Atlas Unveils New Features, Including Vertical Tabs and Password Support

OpenAI launches a major update to ChatGPT Atlas — a specialized AI browser for Mac, which now features ChatGPT integration. The new version of the Chromium-based browser includes nine new features. The most noticeable change is the introduction of vertical tabs that dynamically resize in an adjustable sidebar. A new interface for managing downloads has also been added.

The browser now supports passwords from iCloud, allowing users to store and utilize passwords for websites. Additionally, there is now the option to import Chrome extensions and set a default search engine — for example, Google. Settings have been added for opening multiple tabs simultaneously (Shift + click) and for cycling through recently used tabs using Control + Tab.

Significant improvements have been made to the sensitivity of the Ask ChatGPT sidebar. While Apple's Safari browser currently lacks AI integration, Chrome supports this feature. In the future, Apple may need to integrate Siri and other AI tools into Safari to remain competitive among AI browsers from companies like OpenAI, Google, and Perplexity.

This update follows the launch of GPT-5.1 Pro, which, according to OpenAI, provides more accurate and understandable responses for complex tasks. Trials have shown that users highly rated the model for its assistance in writing, data analysis, and answering business inquiries, noting improved clarity, relevance, and structure of responses.
