Apple's Smart Home Revolution in 2026: All the Rumors

It has been over ten years since the launch of Apple's HomeKit smart home platform, and it is now in need of an update. With increasing competition from AI-based solutions by Google and Amazon, Apple plans to upgrade its system in 2026.

Apple's Smart Home Revolution in 2026: All the Rumors

The new home management center will feature a full-screen display similar to an iPad, with a 7-inch screen. At the same time, the company is developing two device options: one designed for wall mounting and another with speakers similar to the HomePod mini, which can be placed on a table or kitchen counter.

The center will have its own operating system, without an App Store, but with the ability to run widgets. Built-in sensors will detect user presence, changing the interface based on the situation: showing the time and temperature when no one is nearby, or adjusting the temperature settings when someone approaches. This will allow for automatic lighting and the ability to distinguish between people in the room.

Music can be played through the device, and there will be a built-in camera for video calls. Interactivity will be provided through touch and voice commands to Siri, which will receive a new, more personalized look and will be able to handle complex requests thanks to the implementation of large language models.

Apple plans to integrate Siri with Google Gemini, allowing the use of advanced AI technologies without sending data to Google, as the computations will occur on the company's servers. The Siri update is expected to arrive on iOS 26.4, likely in March-April 2026.

Regarding hardware, Apple plans to update its HomePod mini and Apple TV lineup, which will receive new chips and possibly support for Apple Intelligence features. Meanwhile, the company is working on its own internal security cameras that will be integrated with HomeKit and ensure a high level of privacy. The first devices are expected by the end of 2026, with potential new products like doorbells and other accessories to follow later.
