Samsung to Unveil Apple Vision Pro Competitor Tomorrow

Samsung will unveil its new product — the mixed reality headset "Project Moohan," which will compete with the Apple Vision Pro. The Galaxy event, where this innovation will be announced, is set for tomorrow evening. Samsung claims that their headset "ushers in a new era" in the realm of devices supported by artificial intelligence.

According to already released information, the Project Moohan headset was showcased back in January and closely resembles the Vision Pro. It features a ski-like screen and a soft fabric seal that fits snugly against the face. A single strap with a handle at the back allows for fit adjustment. Like the Vision Pro, the device uses an external battery that should be carried in a pocket.

Detailed specifications, such as weight, display resolution, or price, remain unknown at this time. However, Samsung describes the headset as "lightweight" and "ergonomically optimized" for maximum comfort. It will operate on a new operating system, Android XR, developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. This system is specifically designed for augmented reality devices — headsets and smart glasses — and is analogous to Google's visionOS.

With Android XR, users will be able to immerse themselves in a virtual environment or use cameras to maintain presence in the real world, similar to the capabilities of Apple's Vision Pro. The Samsung headset will feature enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities, including support for Gemini for device management and obtaining information about the surrounding world.

Additional features include watching YouTube on a "virtual big screen," integration of Google Maps with an immersive mode, multiple virtual screens in Chrome for multitasking, and support for 3D images in Google Photos.

The event announcing the new headset is scheduled for tomorrow at 7:00 PM Pacific Time or 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
