Apple has introduced new chips for the iPhone 17 lineup, including the A19 and A19 Pro, which are used in various models. The standard iPhone 17 is equipped with the A19 chip, while the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro models feature the more powerful A19 Pro. All these chips are manufactured using advanced 3-nanometer technology.

A19 vs A19 Pro: Differences in iPhone 17 chips

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models come with the A19 Pro featuring a 6-core GPU, delivering high performance. In contrast, the iPhone Air uses the A19 Pro with one less GPU core. According to Apple, the A19 has a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU, while the A19 Pro for the iPhone Air also has a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. The iPhone 17 Pro models are more finely tuned with a 6-core CPU and a 6-core GPU.

All A19 chips are equipped with neural accelerators that enhance the performance of AI models, such as Siri, and feature an upgraded 16-core neural engine, improved display engine, and image signal processor. Apple claims that the A19 Pro is the fastest mobile processor and has the most advanced GPU among smartphones on the market.

The new CPU has 50% more last-level cache, improved bandwidth, and enhanced branch prediction. The GPU features increased computing speeds, image compression, and second-generation dynamic caching. Neural accelerators provide four times the peak performance compared to the A18 Pro.

The iPhone 17 Pro models have received an updated thermal design with cooling via a vapor chamber, further enhancing the performance of the A19 Pro. With these innovations, the CPU and GPU in the A19 Pro demonstrate 40% better performance compared to the A18 Pro used in the iPhone 16 models. Additionally, the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models feature 12 GB of RAM, while the standard iPhone 17 has 8 GB.
