Microsoft is introducing new features for PCs in its Xbox app on Windows. Now players can quickly install and launch third-party applications, such as browsers, gaming utilities, or even competitors' stores. The Xbox app for Windows 11 now includes a "My Apps" tab, making it easy to find, browse, and download third-party programs and popular stores.

Microsoft adds support for gaming apps and PC stores in the Xbox app on Windows

According to Devin Dhaliwal, Xbox Product Manager, this new feature consolidates gaming apps in one place, significantly simplifying the search, download, and launch of games from various platforms. Previously, Microsoft had already integrated Steam, Battle.net, Ubisoft Connect, and other service libraries into the Xbox app, but the new "My Apps" interface is particularly beneficial for portable PCs. It helps avoid using the traditional Windows desktop interface and provides more convenient navigation for devices like the ROG Xbox Ally or other portable Windows 11 PCs.

During testing, several applications were listed, including Battle.net, Chrome, and GOG Galaxy. Installed programs launched without issues, although GOG Galaxy attempted to download and install itself through the Xbox interface, which failed due to its beta stage. Microsoft is currently testing this feature with a limited set of applications and plans to expand support over time.

This move is part of the company's efforts to integrate Windows and Xbox for portable gaming PCs, such as the Xbox Ally. Last year, Microsoft stated its goal to make the Xbox app the central hub for PC gaming and is actively working on realizing this vision.
