Apple refutes Musk's claims of ChatGPT bias in the App Store

Apple today responded to Elon Musk's accusations regarding the preferential treatment of the ChatGPT app from OpenAI in the App Store. The company assured that its app store is fair and free from bias. According to representatives, the App Store is designed to provide equal opportunities for all developers, using ratings, algorithmic recommendations, and curator lists selected by experts based on objective criteria. The platform's goal is to make app discovery safe for users and provide developers with valuable opportunities to enhance the visibility of their products in rapidly changing categories.

Yesterday, Elon Musk threatened to take legal action against Apple, accusing the company of violating antitrust laws by favoring ChatGPT over other AI apps, including Grok. He claimed that Apple is creating barriers for AI companies other than OpenAI to secure leading positions in the store. Musk noted that xAI is already taking urgent legal measures. However, he did not provide evidence for his accusations, while earlier this year the AI app DeepSeek had already reached the top spot in the App Store rankings. Currently, ChatGPT continues to lead in the free apps category, while Grok holds the fifth position. The X app ranks 32nd.

Musk also stated that Apple refuses to list the X or Grok apps in the "Must-Have" section, where popular apps, including ChatGPT, are featured. Meanwhile, Grok was recently updated, adding features for adults, including deepfake celebrity content, which has drawn significant criticism due to potential abuses. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, in response to Musk's statements, noted that he is manipulating the algorithms of the X platform for his own benefit.

Apple is already facing an antitrust lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as contesting a ruling in the case against Epic Games, which required significant changes in the operation of the App Store.
