Microsoft suddenly shuts down the movie and TV store on Xbox and Windows

Microsoft has unexpectedly closed its movie and TV show store for Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. Now users will not be able to purchase new content through the Microsoft Store on Xbox or Windows, but previously saved movies and shows remain available for viewing on their devices. Downloads of movies on Windows will remain available in high HD quality.

To view already purchased content, users need to use the Movies & TV apps on Windows or Xbox. Other services are not suitable for this purpose, except in cases where purchases were made through Movies Anywhere in the USA. Microsoft does not provide refunds for purchases already made.

This move marks a logical conclusion for Xbox and Windows users following the closure of the Groove Music service in 2017. The history of Microsoft's movie and TV show store began back in 2006 with Zune Marketplace, later transitioning to Xbox Video in 2012, and in 2015 transforming into the Movies & TV app and store. Now Microsoft is closing this platform, leaving the streaming service market to other players such as Amazon, Netflix, Apple TV, and others.

The company is committed to supporting users regarding previously purchased content, and many hope that Microsoft's servers will continue to operate for many years to come.
