The deal is valued at $6.5 billion. OpenAI first announced plans to acquire Jony Ive's startup back in May, when they shared a video outlining their future plans. Ive and Altman are working on creating a new line of AI devices. In his statement, Ive noted: "The products we use to connect with incredible technologies have remained unchanged for decades. It just makes sense to think that there could be more than these outdated devices."

Ive is set to design the AI device that will ultimately be launched by OpenAI. Additionally, several former Apple employees who co-founded io alongside Ive have also joined OpenAI. For now, Ive is focused on design, while OpenAI is responsible for expertise in artificial intelligence.

According to the latest information, the first device created by Ive and Altman will not be headphones or a wearable gadget. Instead, it will be placed in a pocket or on a desk next to a Mac or iPhone. Other sources report that this pocket device will have contextual awareness, able to consider the user's environment and life, providing useful information without the use of a screen.
