Microsoft now displays a huge banner on Chrome to keep you on Edge.

In competition, all means are fair.

Microsoft Edge, the default browser in Windows 10 and 11, is used by many users solely for downloading Chrome. This frustrates Microsoft so much that it constantly devises new tricks to prevent users from switching to the competitor's solution. The latest attempt to retain the audience surpasses all previous ones.

Now, when trying to install Chrome using Edge, two banners are displayed in the browser. The first, a small one, appears on the screen when navigating to the Google website, while the second, a full-width banner, is shown after the page loads.

The large banner states that Edge uses the same technologies as Chrome, but with "additional trust from Microsoft."

For fairness, it should be noted that Microsoft is not the only one practicing questionable tactics to increase its user base. Google also displays banners to promote Chrome, but they only appear on the company's resources. Google does not advertise on the Firefox website and does not shout every time you want to download another browser.
