Users Unhappy with Windows 11 Start Menu Redesign

It makes unnecessary changes, pushing important elements to the background.

The new test build Windows 11, which is already available for Windows Insiders participants, introduces noticeable changes to the Start menu. Some users are not pleased with this at all.

The redesign focuses on account management and provides quick access to Windows profiles, Microsoft 365, Xbox Game Pass, and OneDrive.

However, the update moves frequently used features like "Sign Out," "Switch User," and "Lock" to a less accessible location. The latter has completely disappeared. While these actions were previously available on the main Start menu, they now require an extra mouse click as they have been relocated to a three-dot menu in the upper right corner.

These features are needed more often than, say, access to the Xbox Game Pass or Microsoft 365 account, notes PCWorld. Some users do not have them at all.

The redesign of the Start menu is expected to become publicly available with the next major autumn update (24H2).
