A recent report from Google states that starting in August this year, "Drive" will no longer support Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and the 32-bit version of Windows 10. The document update was noted in Android Police.
This concerns a standalone PC application that allows you to sync your data with the cloud and back up photos and videos in "Google Photos." Starting in August, users with the mentioned OS versions will not be able to do this. They will have to use the web version of "Drive" in the browser - if it functions correctly on the old system.
The discontinuation of support for "dead" versions of Windows is not new for Google, which began the gradual phase-out of support back with Chrome in February. Similar steps are being taken by other companies: Mozilla is also ending support for Firefox on Windows 7 and 8.
