A seafarer can be on leave without being on vacation. Leave means you're off the vessel. Vacation means you're taking a holiday, traveling, etc.#WOTD

⚓️ Did you know why it is called PAN-PAN?❗️ The radio signal PAN-PAN is used to indicate an urgency situation. It means that the vessel, aircraft, or person needs assistance, but the situation is not immediately life-threatening. In other words, the situation is serious but not yet a distress emergency.✅ The term PAN-PAN comes from the French word “panne”, which means a breakdown, mechanical failure, or malfunction. The signal was adopted in early international radio communication because French was widely used in aviation and maritime radio procedures at the time.⚠️ A PAN-PAN call may be transmitted in situations such as: engine failure, loss of propulsion, medical emergency, man overboard situation etc. In practice, the classification of a situation may depend on the prevailing circumstances.
