Данте Габріель Росетті не став його публікувати (вилучив зі збірки Poems (1867) безпосередньо перед публікацією), тому він існує або в рукописі, або в гранках. Оспівана в сонеті шовковиця - легендарне дерево, яке буцімто посадив сам Шекспір і яке пережило і його, і всю його родину, допоки його не зрубав преподобний Ф. Ґастрел. Втім, зв'язок шовковиці із родиною Шекспіра є доволі сумнівним.
