⭐️Third session schedule (May 20)⭐️- 15:50. Opening session- 15:55. Samaya Nissanke: "New perspectives on the Universe into the era of multimessenger astronomy"Since the first detection of gravitational waves from a binary black hole merger in 2015, observations by LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA have revolutionized modern astronomy and physics. In particular, the multi-messenger observation of the binary neutron star merger GW170817, detected in both gravitational and electromagnetic radiation, opened a new era in astrophysics and enabled breakthroughs in gravity, high-energy astrophysics, nuclear physics, and cosmology. In this talk we will discuss recent progress in strong-field gravity astrophysics, the importance of combining observations, theory, and experiment, as well as the key challenges and future opportunities in the rapidly evolving field of multi-messenger astronomy. - 16:10. Maksym Barabashko: “From Frozen Atoms to Smart Materials: How Cryocrystals Reveal the Secrets of Heat Capacity”Cryocrystals are solids formed at extremely low temperatures from simple atoms and molecules. Although they may seem like exotic laboratory objects, they play a central role in modern materials science. Their clean lattice structures and well‑defined phonon spectra make them ideal model systems for studying vibrations, store and transport energy. This talk will show how the low‑temperature heat capacity of cryocrystals reveals universal features of lattice dynamics, including van Hove singularities and quantum effects. These insights are crucial for interpreting the thermal behavior of advanced nanomaterials such as graphene derivatives, carbon nanotubes, and polymer structures. - 16:25. Anne Oppelt: "Accelerator Research and Development at DESY in Zeuthen"The talk gives an overview of the PITZ facility and the research activities, focusing on gun development and THz SASE FEL.The electron source development for the Free Electron Lasers (FEL) in Hamburg started in 2001, and the latest gun was recently installed at the European XFEL. For the users at the European XFEL, a proof-of-principle THz FEL has been set up at PITZ with the goal of optimizing THz light properties for pump-probe experiments. - 16:40. Anna Grebinyk: "When Accelerator Physics Meets Biomedicine: Toward Better Cancer Treatment"This contribution gives an overview on the radiation biology research at the PITZ accelerator facility, the 3rd research pillar at PITZ. In order to improve the current cancer therapy, experiments to study the FLASH effect and ultra-high dose rate irradiation are carried out  in comparison with conventional treatment. The status of the activities is presented, as well as future plans. - 16:55. Orest Hryhorchak: "Quantum Prisoner’s Dilemma"Quantum Prisoner’s Dilemma is a quantum generalization of the classical Prisoner’s Dilemma from game theory, in which players use not only classical strategies but also quantum states and operations acting on qubits. In the classical case, rational behavior leads both players to the Nash equilibrium in which both choose betrayal (defect), even though mutual cooperation would provide a better outcome for each player. In the quantum version of the game, superposition and quantum entanglement appear, fundamentally changing the structure of possible strategies and equilibria. Each player controls an individual qubit, while the strategy is represented by a unitary operator acting on the two-dimensional Hilbert space. Please note that this session will start earlier than usual, at 15:50, so be ready to join around 15:45 💻  Event chat
