Anthropic's Super Bowl ads and Opus 4.6 release pushed Claude into the U.S. App Store top 10 with a 32% download spike.
Anthropic's Super Bowl Ads Drive Big Uptick for Claude
Anthropic's Super Bowl commercials — darkly comedic spots showing people asking chatbots for advice only to be misdirected to "cougar" dating sites or sold height-boosting insoles — appear to be paying off. The company's AI chatbot, Claude, climbed the U.S. App Store charts from No. 41 to a top 10 position in the days after the game.

Claude reached No. 7 on the U.S. App Store, its highest rank to date, as users responded to the app's "no ads" positioning.
Downloads and growth
New data from market intelligence provider Appfigures shows Claude's U.S. downloads across iOS and Android totaled an estimated 148,000 from Sunday through Tuesday — a 32% increase from the preceding Thursday through Saturday period, which saw roughly 112,000 downloads. The daily average from Sunday through Tuesday was 49,200, up from the usual 37,400 for those days.
- U.S. downloads (Sun–Tue): ~148,000 (up 32%)
- Previous period (Thu–Sat): ~112,000
- Daily average (Sun–Tue): 49,200 vs. typical 37,400
Why the spike matters
The numbers suggest two factors worked together: Anthropic's high-profile Super Bowl ads and the release of its Opus 4.6 model. The commercials highlighted Claude's main differentiator from competitors — notably ChatGPT — by emphasizing a "no ads" user experience. That message likely resonated after OpenAI rolled out ads to its free users the same week.
How Claude's mobile debut compares
Claude's mobile performance now looks stronger than when it launched. The consumer-focused app arrived on iOS in May 2024 and initially received a tepid response. ChatGPT had already established momentum on mobile, reaching nearly half a million installs in its first five days. Claude recorded about 157,000 global downloads in its first week and never rose above No. 55 on the U.S. App Store during that launch window.
Global trends and context
Worldwide, Claude also saw growth: global downloads across the App Store and Google Play rose about 15% from Sunday through Tuesday compared with the prior Thursday through Saturday. However, Appfigures noted that the U.S. gains were more pronounced, suggesting the Super Bowl ads had a stronger domestic impact.
What this means for users and the market
For consumers, Claude's climb signals increased interest in ad-free AI chat experiences. For the AI app market, it shows how large-scale advertising and timely model updates can move downloads and rankings quickly. Expect competitors to respond with marketing pushes and product changes.
