Grubhub parent Wonder acquired Claim to bring cash-back rewards and personalized promotions to restaurants and diners, starting in NYC with national rollout planned.
Grubhub Parent Wonder Acquires Restaurant Rewards App Claim
Grubhub parent company Wonder announced it has acquired Claim, a rewards app that offers cash-back incentives for dining at local restaurants. The move aims to expand Grubhub's tools for restaurant partners and deliver more savings to diners.

What Claim Does
Founded in 2021, Claim provides cash-back rewards redeemable for dine-in or pick-up orders. Restaurants create promotions and track performance through Claim's dashboard. The app focuses on driving foot traffic and improving customer retention with targeted offers.
Deal Details
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Claim previously raised a total of $20 million, including a $12 million Series A in October 2024. PitchBook estimated Claim's valuation at about $62 million at the time.
Why the Acquisition Matters
Grubhub says the acquisition will give its partner restaurants access to Claim's customer acquisition and retention tools. Diners on Grubhub should see additional savings and rewards for in-person dining.
"By combining a delightful rewards experience and powerful machine learning models, we match restaurants with their next regulars," said Claim CEO and co-founder Sam Obletz.
What Employees and Users Can Expect
- Grubhub offered positions to all members of the Claim team, the company told TechCrunch.
- Claim is already available to Grubhub merchants and diners in New York City, with a nationwide rollout planned later this year.
- Current Claim users can continue using the Claim app and website "for the time being." Grubhub plans a "streamlined experience" across both apps in the coming months but has not shared details yet.
- Some product changes or adjustments to how rewards are paid out may occur, though Grubhub says personalized promotions will continue.
Benefits for Restaurants
Under Grubhub, Claim's technology will help restaurants:
- Reduce customer acquisition costs through targeted rewards and promotions.
- Drive repeat visits with personalized offers.
- Access performance analytics via an integrated dashboard.
Grubhub's Perspective
"Claim's innovative rewards technology introduces a powerful new way for our restaurant partners to engage in-person diners and builds on Grubhub's robust existing suite of marketing tools," said Grubhub CEO Howard Migdal. "With Grubhub and Claim together under one roof, we can scale Claim's data-driven tools to our more than 415,000 merchants and help our nearly 20 million diners save more money at the restaurants they love."
Investors and Backing
Investors in Claim include VMG Technology, Sequoia Capital, Susa Ventures, Lightbank and Metalab Ventures.
Context for Readers
This acquisition reflects a broader trend in the food delivery and local dining market: platforms are investing in loyalty and rewards technology to retain customers and support merchants. For restaurants, combining promotional tools with analytics can turn occasional patrons into regulars. For diners, it can mean lower costs and more tailored offers.
