Forestrike taught me to become a true pixel fighter. At first, it was challenging to master the game, but over time I began to see its uniqueness. This combat arcade project from the developers of Olija and Skeleton Crew offers an intriguing feature: in the game, you can predict what will happen in battle and train your strategy in advance. This turns each fight into a puzzle that requires quick reflexes and precise actions. That's why I became stronger in the world of pixel games.

Forestrike: learning martial arts in a pixel battle with prediction

In the game, you control a martial arts apprentice named Yu. Although inexperienced, he has the mission to free his homeland from a sinister empire. Your goal is to explore landscapes and fight enemies. Forestrike has a roguelite structure, meaning each run alters levels and scenarios. Frequent defeats are an integral part of the process, as the game promotes the idea of continuous learning. You are accompanied by mentors who teach new techniques that aid in your mission.

The main mechanic is the ability to predict the fight. It allows you to foresee the progression of the battle and train your strategy—like a rehearsal before the real confrontation. Fights in Forestrike are fast and last only a few seconds, but they require a precise sequence of movements. Prediction helps determine the optimal actions before you find yourself in danger. This doesn't make the game easy: at first, I was often defeated. Knowing when to dodge, raise your weapon, or deliver a powerful strike at the right moment is a true challenge.

The game constantly presents new challenges: sometimes the ability to predict is limited or completely unavailable. This does not simplify the game; on the contrary, it helps refine skills. Prediction is more than just a tool; it's part of the training, akin to a few warm-up throws before a basketball game. The trials and challenges make the game engaging, even if several fights are similar to each other.

The game's structure allows you to unlock new abilities during each run and meet new martial arts masters, expanding your arsenal. Over time, everything begins to come together. And when you manage to flawlessly navigate a large crowd of enemies—it's an incredible feeling, like in a classic action movie where you control the events. However, those few seconds of perfection are the result of extensive training. Forestrike is already available on Steam and will soon be released on Nintendo Switch.
