Apple and OpenAI Face Lawsuit from xAI

Apple and OpenAI are required to continue addressing the lawsuit against the startup xAI, related to the integration of Siri. U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman announced that the companies must submit arguments in their favor. xAI filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI in August 2025, accusing them of colluding to dominate the artificial intelligence market. This came after Elon Musk complained about the absence of his apps X and Grok in the "Must-Have Apps" section of the App Store.

The lawsuit claims that Apple was shocked by significant innovations in the AI field and conspired with OpenAI in a desperate attempt to maintain its monopoly in the smartphone market. The document mentions the integration of ChatGPT into Siri, as Apple has not made deals with other companies for the integration of third-party chatbots. xAI insists that iPhone users wishing to utilize a generative chatbot are largely forced to use ChatGPT, even if they prefer more innovative products like Grok.

While users can download any chatbot app from the App Store, xAI argues that these apps do not offer the same functionality, convenience, and integration as ChatGPT in Siri. The lawsuit also accuses Apple of insufficient support for competing generative chatbots and states that Grok lacks access to data from billions of iPhone users due to the lack of integration with Siri.

Meanwhile, xAI reported that it sought to integrate with Apple Intelligence but was denied. In previously submitted documents, Apple and OpenAI denied the allegations, claiming that there are no exclusive agreements between the companies that prevent Apple from integrating other chatbots into Siri. xAI is now asking the court to halt the "anti-competitive scheme" and assist it in recovering billions in damages.
