Valve aims to ensure smooth performance of Half-Life: Alyx on the new Steam Frame VR headset in standalone mode. Jay Peters, a senior reporter specializing in technology and gaming, joined The Verge in 2019 after nearly two years at Techmeme. During the testing of streaming Half-Life: Alyx from PC to Steam Frame, I was impressed: with the Frame wireless adapter and the technology Valve calls "foveated streaming," there was virtually no noticeable latency, even while exploring an industrial building and battling headcrabs. However, the Steam Frame itself is equipped with an ARM processor, allowing for local game execution.

Valve aims to ensure quality performance of Half-Life: Alyx standalone on Steam Frame

Although I personally have not had the chance to test the game in standalone mode, according to Valve's comments to other media, the company is optimistic about this possibility. Valve told Digital Foundry: "Half-Life: Alyx is a fantastic experience when streaming from PC to Steam Frame, and we are working to make standalone mode equally high-quality." According to UploadVR, "Valve representatives believe they will be able to run Half-Life: Alyx with good performance in standalone mode, but they are not making any guarantees yet as there is still much work ahead." Hopefully, Valve will find a way to realize this potential.

Personally, I have never played Half-Life: Alyx, but if I get the Steam Frame, I will definitely try to play it in standalone mode.
