Google Announces Launch of Private AI Compute

This week, Google introduced a new cloud platform called Private AI Compute, designed to provide high-performance artificial intelligence capabilities while ensuring strict data privacy controls. This system has a structure that closely resembles Apple's Private Cloud Compute technology.

According to Google, this service allows for the execution of artificial intelligence tasks that exceed the computational capabilities of local hardware, while securely processing data in the cloud and minimizing risks to users' personal information. The company has long been developing technologies to enhance privacy, including PETs that improve security in various AI application scenarios.

The new platform combines the most powerful Gemini models with cloud processing, providing a level of security and privacy that users expect. This aligns with Google's commitment to creating safe and responsible artificial intelligence.

Private AI Compute is built on specialized tensor processing units (TPUs) with integrated Titanium Intelligence Enclaves (TIE). These hardware-secured environments create an isolated "fortified space" where data can be safely processed without direct access by Google engineers or administrators. Devices connect through secure channels and remote attestation, ensuring data confidentiality.

The initial capabilities of this system are already available on Pixel 10 devices, particularly for enhancing the Magic Cue feature—an assistant that provides contextual suggestions—and the updated Recorder app, which can summarize transcriptions in additional languages. Both features are based on Gemini models that require significant computational resources, which the internal NPU cannot provide.

Private AI Compute is similar to Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which was launched last year. Apple's system supports Apple Intelligence features and uses dedicated servers with Apple Silicon chips to process artificial intelligence tasks in closed and secure environments.
