The new iPad Pro from Apple has arrived nearly 18 months after the release of the previous model with the M4 chip. This model has raised many questions about how different it is and whether it is worth upgrading. Last year's iPad Pro received significant updates, including a thinner design, nano-texture options, OLED displays, a landscape-mode front camera, and a new Magic Keyboard with an aluminum casing, function keys, and a haptic feedback trackpad.

According to Apple, the M5 chip significantly boosts performance: up to 15% faster in multi-threaded tasks, 30% in graphics, and 45% in ray tracing. It also shows substantial improvements in AI software applications: 4 times peak GPU performance for AI, 3.6 times processing speed for LLM, 1.8 times processing speed for Topaz Video Enhance AI, 1.7 times ray tracing in Blender, and 2.9 times improvement in AI voiceover in Premiere Pro.

Regarding technical changes, the M5 is built on the third generation 3nm process, based on the A19 Pro chip, has integrated neural accelerators with Tensor API, and memory bandwidth has increased to 153 GB/s. Meanwhile, the M4 is built on an older technology process and uses less advanced architectural solutions.

While the updates have their advantages, their practical effect is limited. For most users whose workflows do not involve intensive AI, prolonged exports, or high memory usage, the difference between the models will be minimal. Therefore, for average users, upgrading from M4 to M5 is not necessary. This is more relevant for those working with large AI applications, professional video processing, or planning to use external displays at 120 Hz for extended periods.

Thus, for owners of older models, upgrading to M5 makes sense when the highest performance and long device lifespan are required. Otherwise, for most users, the upgrade will not provide significant benefits. Currently, the iPad Pro with M4 remains fully capable for most tasks, and a large portion of users will not notice a substantial difference.
