Halo: Campaign Evolved is a modern remake of the classic game, debuting on PlayStation 5 and Xbox in 2026. Developed by Halo Studios in time for the 25th anniversary of the series, this project is a complete overhaul of the original Combat Evolved, released alongside the first Xbox in 2001.

The game reimagines the campaign with high-quality 4K visuals, new weapons, vehicles, and an online co-op mode for four players. New narrative content has also been added. The game will be available on Xbox Series X / S, PC, and for the first time on PlayStation 5, all in 2026.

Players had the opportunity to try a preview demo of the mission The Silent Cartographer and noted significant updates: enhanced cinematic cutscenes, voice lines, and greatly improved graphics and animation. The remake utilizes Unreal Engine 5, allowing not only for visual enhancements but also for expanded gameplay. New mechanics have been introduced, including the ability to run and better control the Warthog vehicle, making the co-op experience even more dynamic.

The developers brought back the original voice actors to re-record lines, adding authenticity to the project. Iconic locations, alien architecture, and environments have been completely updated while preserving the spirit of the original, using materials, codes, and storyboards from the original game to enhance graphics and remix the music.

Campaign Evolved includes three new bonus missions that serve as prequels to the main storyline, revealing new interactions between characters, particularly between the Chief and Johnson. The game supports online co-op for up to four players with cross-play between consoles and PC, as well as local split-screen for two players on consoles.

Weapons have received a complete overhaul — with improved effects, sounds, and aiming capabilities. Nine additional weapon types from the entire Halo series have been added, including the ability to pick up the Energy Sword after defeating an Elite. Players will be able to hijack enemy vehicles, such as the Wraith.

For those seeking a challenge, numerous modifiers — skulls — are included that significantly increase difficulty, and according to the developers, they are unsure if anyone can complete the legendary mode with all skulls activated.

It is worth noting that the multiplayer mode is absent in this version, as the original did not support it. Halo Studios focused on creating a highly modern and quality campaign that combines cutting-edge technology with the classic gameplay of the series.

Halo: Campaign Evolved will be available in 2026 on Xbox Series X / S, PC, and PS5 with support for Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Xbox Play Anywhere. This update will be a significant step for future games in the series, merging technological advancements with the classic Halo experience.
