Former Pokémon Legal Chief Doubts DHS Will Sue Over Video

Yesterday afternoon, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a video that sparked widespread controversy due to its portrayal of police intervention in the homes and businesses of citizens. The video featured a popular Pokémon theme and included numerous copyrighted images from a 90s television show. Many speculated that The Pokémon Company, known for its strict reputation and profit protection policies, would likely file a lawsuit. However, former Pokémon Chief Counsel Don McGowan, who worked at the company for nearly 12 years, expressed doubt about this. According to him, even if he were still with the company, he would not initiate legal action. The video is likely to be forgotten soon, and the company would hardly want to draw unnecessary media attention. Additionally, some Pokémon executives in the U.S. hold green card status, which may influence their decisions.

Meanwhile, DHS is facing criticism for the methods of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), particularly for detaining U.S. citizens based on race, profession, or language. This right was recently upheld by the Supreme Court. This situation raises discussions about the limits of law enforcement's use of force and copyright protection in the context of political pressure.
