In 2026, a complete update of Siri is expected, which aims to make the assistant smarter and capable of performing more complex tasks. Apple is actively working on a new version of Siri, based on large language models similar to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other AI chats. The new Siri will be able to engage in continuous conversations and provide human-like responses to questions, executing more complex functions.

The development of the update has faced certain challenges. During the iOS 18 showcase at the 2024 developers conference, the company focused on demonstrating a smarter version of Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence. However, after the launch of models for iPhone 16, Apple announced that many new features would not be available. In March 2025, the company confirmed that the Apple Intelligence features for Siri, expected in iOS 18, would not be released, and the new version is scheduled for 2026.

The delay was not due to the full version of Siri based on large language models, but rather due to interim solutions that were less powerful. The new Siri is expected to have the ability to consider personal context by tracking emails, messages, files, and photos to better assist with daily tasks. A screen awareness feature is also planned, allowing Siri to see what is happening on the user's screen and act accordingly. Additionally, deeper integration with applications is anticipated, enabling more actions across various software environments.

However, the development process has encountered difficulties. Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, noted that the first-generation architecture designed for personalized Siri features was too limited. This led to an internal reorganization and a change in project leadership, including the removal of AI department head John Giannandrea.

Regarding the future, there are rumors that the developing large language model may be delayed, causing low morale among employees. At the same time, management has confirmed that the new version of Siri will be available by spring 2026, with an official launch planned for that year.
