The year 2025 has become particularly anticipated for video game fans. Finally, the long-awaited news has arrived — the standalone sequel to Hollow Knight, Silksong, will be released on September 4 after seven years of development and nearly the same period of silence. This is joyful news for millions of fans who have eagerly awaited the release. The year promises to be a true celebration for lovers of long-developed projects: later this year, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will take the stage. Although the exact release date has not yet been announced, the game will be one of the first releases for Switch 2. It will be launched simultaneously for both versions of the console, as its development has taken longer than expected. The game was first announced in 2017, but in 2019, Nintendo announced a reboot of the project, and the studio Retro, which created the original Prime series, took over its development. After five years, in 2024, the game with the subtitle Beyond made headlines again, and earlier this year it was confirmed as a title for Switch 2.

Another highly anticipated game is Routine from Lunar Software, which has been in development since 2012. It was initially planned for release in 2016, but that did not happen. Only after six years was the game presented again with a new trailer, and it was announced that it would be published by the Swedish label Raw Fury. This week, during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, it was confirmed that due to technical and design difficulties faced by both Routine and Metroid Prime 4, the release of both projects has been postponed to 2025. The development of Metroid has been particularly challenging, which Nintendo director Shinya Takahashi described as quite complex. At the same time, Silksong is being developed by a small team that, although working slowly, is doing so steadily. Team Cherry co-founder Ari Gibson noted in an interview with Bloomberg that the process has never stalled; the game has been developing gradually. The team is small, so creating large-scale games takes time, but without dramatic moments.

Another important piece of news is the postponement of the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, originally scheduled for 2025. Rockstar showed the first trailer at the end of 2023, ten years after the release of GTA V, but now the release has been moved to May 26, 2026. This means that fans will have to wait a little longer. Even without grand releases this year, many players will receive what they have been waiting for for years. The list of such games includes the latest chapters of Deltarune, as well as the question of what comes next: is the sequel to Beyond Good & Evil still alive? When will the creator of Stardew Valley release Haunted Chocolatier? Will there be a remake of Knights of the Old Republic or Bloodborne? What about new releases of Elder Scrolls and Half-Life 3? We hope that 2026 will bring even more good news for gamers.
