Lawsuit Against Roblox in Louisiana Over Allegations of Creating a Dangerous Environment for Children

The state of Louisiana has sued Roblox, accusing the company of creating a platform where predators thrive. The lawsuit claims that Roblox "has allowed and supported an online environment where child predators flourish, contributing to widespread victimization of minors in Louisiana." The platform has over 111.8 million active users daily and is extremely popular among children, with nearly 40% of users under the age of 13 in the last quarter.

However, Roblox has faced criticism for inadequate child protection. Bloomberg published a major report last year on predators on the platform, and investment firm Hindenburg Research stated that their investigation uncovered a "pedophilic hellscape rated X." In recent months, the company has taken steps to enhance user safety, including implementing parental accounts for monitoring and the ability to block unwanted users from friend lists.

Nevertheless, Louisiana claims that Roblox deliberately refuses to implement effective measures to protect children from known threats and does not warn parents and children about potential dangers on the platform, contributing to the sexual exploitation of minors and causing serious harm to children in the state. Attorney General Liz Murrell emphasized: "Roblox is filled with harmful content and child predators, as the company prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety. Every parent needs to be aware of this obvious and real danger to protect their children."
