Stripe apologized for false claims about banning LGBTQ products.

Stripe, one of the leading companies in the financial services sector, acting as a payment processor for millions of businesses, including the platform itch.io, has apologized after reports emerged about misinformation from its support service. The messages claimed that the company allegedly does not support the sale of LGBTQ content. Stripe representative Casey Becker stated in a letter to The Verge: "We sincerely apologize. The information provided by the support team was completely incorrect. Stripe has no bans on the sale of LGBTQ+ content or products."

Many clients were outraged and called payment processors on behalf of adult content creators who were excluded from search results on itch.io. Although Stripe's terms explicitly prohibit the sale of any adult content, some users on social media reported that support representatives claimed Stripe could not be used to purchase legal, non-adult LGBTQ content. One artist, Dieselbrain, shared on Bluesky that twice in one day Stripe operators directly stated that they do not allow the platform to be used for such purchases. Other users posted call recordings where company representatives confirmed the ban on selling this type of content.

In response, Casey Becker emphasized that this was a mistake, and the company is working to ensure that all inquiries receive the correct response in the future.
