Riot Games is gradually implementing a new control scheme for League of Legends based on the WASD keys, which was previously used only through point-and-click. The company believes that this scheme will provide a fresh yet familiar way to play for both newcomers and experienced players, without altering the uniqueness of League of Legends.

Riot notes that WASD is one of the most common control schemes in PC gaming today, and believes that adding it as an option will make the game more intuitive for those coming from other projects. At the same time, the company is working to ensure a balance between traditional and new control styles. Testing of the new scheme will begin in a public beta, initially in casual matches, and later in ranked and professional competitions.
