Sonos has announced the appointment of Tom Conrad as the executive director, officially replacing Patrick Spence, who stepped down in January. Spence led the company for eight years and was responsible for a challenging redesign of the app, which frustrated customers due to a lack of functionality and performance issues. This resulted in delays in launching new products and a workforce reduction of 100 employees.

Tom Conrad is a co-founder of the music service Pandora and has previously held positions as Vice President of Products at Snap and Chief Product Officer at Quibi. He was also a member of the Sonos board of directors before his appointment to this role. The board was searching for a replacement for the CEO, and over the past six months, Conrad has successfully implemented changes, transforming the situation within the company.

He has been appointed CEO and will remain on the board of directors. "After a comprehensive and competitive search, the board is confident that Tom is the best person to lead Sonos into the next phase, delighting customers, fostering innovation, and driving growth," said Julius Genachowski, chair of the board. "Over the past six months, Tom has earned the trust of employees, customers, partners, and shareholders, restoring a sense of urgency and a deep commitment to continuously improving the experience. He has a compelling vision for the future of Sonos, with strong plans to leverage cutting-edge technologies, including AI, that open up new possibilities. We look forward to the next phase of the company's development."

Under Conrad's leadership, the company has enhanced its app and successfully launched the Sonos Ace headphones and the Sonos Arc Ultra soundbar. Conrad himself noted that he is excited to "move from recovery to envisioning the next generation of experience."
