iOS 26 Beta 4 Introduces Notification Summaries for News Apps

In the new beta version of iOS 26, which is now available for testing, the notification summary feature for news apps has returned. Along with the release of the fourth beta versions of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, visionOS 26, and watchOS 26, Apple has reintroduced notification summaries using Apple Intelligence for apps in the News and Entertainment categories. After installing these beta versions, users receive notifications about the activation of summaries in the relevant categories. They have the option to customize the use of summaries for each category separately.

Apple assures that it has improved the summary feature in iOS 26, addressing issues that may have caused confusion with news headlines. All notification summaries for news and entertainment apps created using Apple Intelligence are now displayed in italics and include a note stating "Summarized by Apple Intelligence." The company plans to continue testing and refining this feature during the beta phase, and users can report any issues with the summaries.

It is worth noting that notification summaries for the News and Entertainment categories were removed in the iOS 18.3 update in January due to criticism, particularly for misleading headlines generated by Apple Intelligence. Meanwhile, this feature is available on supported devices and allows for the consolidation of multiple notifications from a single app into one brief overview, making information consumption easier. Although brief summaries sometimes caused issues due to the AI's incorrect extraction of details from news articles, improvements from Apple are expected to enhance their accuracy.
