Microsoft begins testing updates for the Xbox app on PC and Xbox consoles. New features will allow cloud games to follow the user across different devices. In particular, the Xbox app for PC and the main screen of the console will feature a new "Game History" section that displays cloud games in the list of recently played titles. This information will be automatically synchronized across Xbox consoles, PCs, and portable Windows devices.

Xbox games in the cloud will soon be available on Xbox, PC, and portable Windows devices

Now cloud games appear in the history or library of the Xbox app for PC. According to Lily Wang, Xbox product manager, this category includes all cloud games, including console exclusives from the original Xbox to Xbox Series X|S. This applies to games you own and those you access through Game Pass. Your recent games, including cloud titles, will soon be available on all devices, supporting cloud saves.

If you played a game on an Xbox console that is not available on PC, it will still appear in the list of recent games and will be accessible for play through Xbox Cloud Gaming on Windows. Cloud games in the Xbox app for PC can be quickly found using new filters in the library, and the "Game History" section will appear at the end of the "Resume Game" list on the app's main screen.

Using large tiles, the app highlights games you have recently played on the current device, while the "Game History" tile shows games you have played on any Xbox device. This significantly simplifies continuing your game from where you left off, regardless of the device.

This same game history section will also appear on the main interface of the Xbox console, indicating the potential for later adding PC games available for play through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft is currently using Xbox Series X chips to operate the server blocks for Xbox Cloud Gaming, but internal documents and FTC investigations suggest that the company is exploring streaming PC games through the cloud. With the convergence of Xbox and PC for the next generation of consoles, improvements in image quality and data transfer speeds in the Xbox Cloud Gaming service are expected.
