The report reveals the secret roadmap for Apple's Vision products. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from Apple shared details about the plans for Vision and smart glasses by the end of the decade. The company is developing at least seven projects: three devices under the "Vision" brand and four smart glasses products. According to Kuo, five of them have confirmed development timelines, while two still need confirmation. Here's what to expect:

The report reveals the secret roadmap for Apple's Vision products

2025

Apple Vision Pro (M5): An updated first-generation Vision Pro. It is equipped with the M5 chip but has no other changes. The new device is not considered a second-generation model. Mass production is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025, and the company expects to sell between 150,000 and 200,000 units in the first year. This product is likely to remain niche. The second-generation model is designed to support market presence, ecosystem development, and reduce component inventory in the supply chain.

2026

No new Vision products or smart glasses will be released this year.

2027

Apple Smart Glasses: These are Apple's first smart glasses, similar to Meta Ray-Bans. They will offer several material options for frames and temples to provide a more personalized look. The devices will feature voice control, gesture recognition, but no display. Key functions include audio playback, photography, video recording, and artificial intelligence capabilities for understanding the environment. Some users may be able to use them instead of AirPods or an iPhone camera in certain situations. Mass production is scheduled for the second quarter of 2027, with volumes ranging from three to five million units in the first year. This is likely to be the first Vision product or glasses to achieve significant sales.

Apple Vision Air: A new lightweight design that reduces weight by more than 40% compared to Vision Pro. This is achieved by replacing glass with plastic, using a magnesium alloy, and reducing the number of sensors. It will feature the latest flagship iPhone processor instead of the M-series chip. The price will be significantly lower than that of Vision Pro. Mass production is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.

2028

Apple Vision Pro (second generation): A fully-fledged second generation headset with a new design and reduced weight. It will have a powerful Mac-level processor and a lower price than its predecessor. Production is planned for the second half of the year.

Apple XR Glasses: These glasses will feature voice control, gesture recognition, and a color LCD display based on silicon with fiber-optic optics. Artificial intelligence will be key to their functionality. Mass production is set for the second half of 2028. Several other brands are expected to release similar products earlier, but due to their novelty, they will remain niche for the first few years.

2029 and beyond

Apple XR Glasses (second generation or variant): Another version of the glasses introduced in 2028, with later production timelines. Currently, few details are known.

Display accessory (development paused): A new type of device that uses a wired connection to display content from an iPhone or Mac. The technology involves Birdbath optics with electrochromic shading. Initially planned for mass production in the second quarter of 2026, development was paused in the fourth quarter of 2024 due to doubts about its competitive advantages. The device weighs 120-130 grams, which falls short of competitors whose weights are under 100 grams. Apple is reviewing the project and may revive it with improved specifications.

Kuo believes that Apple has significant advantages in offering Vision products and smart glasses due to its ability to develop hardware and unique ecosystem integration. The main challenge lies in functionality and artificial intelligence-based software.
