Nintendo Switch 2 is significantly more expensive in all aspects: the console, games, and even the chat button, for which you'll have to pay later. However, the good news is that you don't necessarily have to buy the official Nintendo camera for $55 for video chatting with friends. The company announced that you can use the Nintendo Switch 2 camera accessory sold separately or any compatible USB-C camera of your choice.

Nintendo Switch 2: Which webcams work?

However, if you simply connect a regular PC webcam, you may be disappointed. Many USB-C models we tested do not work, even popular ones like the Logitech Brio 4K, Insta360 Link, and Elgato Facecam MK.2. In contrast, older USB-A cameras, such as the Logitech C920, work without issues.

So what should be done about this? Unfortunately, Nintendo and webcam manufacturers have not provided a complete list of compatible models. We reached out to companies like Logitech, Razer, Microsoft, Anker, Elgato, Dell, Insta360, Obsbot, and Opal, but as of June 18, none of them confirmed the compatibility of their cameras or explained why some do not work.

We, gamers and journalists, can compile a list of working cameras ourselves. Below is an updated list from Reddit and our tests. Confirmed compatibility with Nintendo Switch 2: Logitech C920, Osmo Pocket 3, Android phone in webcam mode, Obsbot Meet SEDJI, Anker PowerConf C200. Not working: Logitech Brio 4K, Elgato Facecam MK.2, Insta360 Link, and Opal Tadpole.

There is also a large list of cameras that, according to Reddit users, are likely to work with Switch 2. Among them are models from Logitech, Creative, EMEET, Hori, Lenovo, Microsoft, Razer, and other manufacturers.

In tests, it doesn't matter which port the camera is connected through — USB-C, USB-A via a dock, adapter, or hub. What matters is that the camera is compatible: then it will work, otherwise it won't.

It seems that Nintendo meant compatibility specifically with the Switch 2, not with all USB-C cameras in general. So why was it stated that any camera could be used? Nintendo has not provided an answer on this matter.

It's very easy to check camera compatibility: in the system settings menu, go to the "Controllers and Accessories" section > "USB Camera Test." An image from the connected camera will appear there if it is compatible.

Elgato and Obsbot have reported that they are considering firmware updates to support Switch 2 and plan to try to update their cameras, although there are currently no specific details.

Update from June 18: added an updated list from Reddit and information about the lack of responses from camera manufacturers.
