Nintendo bans online services on Switch 2 due to Mig cartridge use

Nintendo has prohibited the use of online services on Switch 2 consoles that utilize the Mig cartridge. Some owners of this model are receiving error code 2134-4508, which leads to a constant restriction of access to any online features of the console. This restriction applies to devices that work with the Mig cartridge — a microSD card that can be used to load game copies.

To run games with Mig, users need to utilize files obtained from other users or create their own copies using the Mig Dumper device. Nintendo considers the use of such copies, whether they are pirated or self-created, as a violation of the user agreement. The manufacturers of the Mig cartridge are trying to distance themselves from piracy, emphasizing that the device is intended for backup and development purposes.

To maintain warranty during online gaming, it is recommended to use only personal backups with authentic certificates. Nintendo does not block consoles immediately, but after a factory reset, the device loses the ability to log into a Nintendo account. The ban specifically targets the hardware, not the user account.

The company has a long history of combating piracy and emulation programs, actively protecting its interests, especially considering the record sales of the Switch 2. In light of these actions, Nintendo is determined to ensure compliance with its rules among players.
