Philips Hue Line Gets New Wall Lighting

Signify has updated its popular Philips Hue lighting range by adding a new product — the Philips Hue Play Wall Washer. This light is designed for ambient backlighting of TVs and other entertainment areas. It provides wide-angle, realistic lighting that is perfect for watching movies, TV shows, games, and other entertainment.

The device uses ColorCast technology for gradient lighting that covers the entire wall, creating an immersive effect. Its compact aluminum design looks modern and discreet. While the Hue Play Wall Washer is easy to use on its own, it also integrates well with the entire Philips Hue ecosystem. The light is compatible with other Philips Hue fixtures, HDMI Sync Box, and can sync with TVs and PCs.

Like all Hue products, this light supports integration with the Apple HomeKit system and can be controlled via the Home app or voice commands through Siri. Signify claims to employ a dynamic algorithm to create more realistic and atmospheric effects that enhance the immersive experience.

The projection area can be adjusted by moving the light closer or further from the wall. Additionally, there are controls for adjusting brightness, effect speed, intensity, and light position. Each light has a brightness of 1035 lumens.

The price for the Philips Hue Play Wall Washer is $220 for a single unit and $385 for a pair. The two-lamp set includes one power supply that powers both devices. The fixtures are available in white and black and can be purchased through the official Hue website.

Future updates will include a generative AI assistant capable of creating lighting scenes based on moods, styles, and events. Signify plans to roll out this feature in the U.S. and Canada by the end of August. Further AI capabilities will expand, including scheduling and automation features.
