AI Becomes a Student: Bot Flynn Passes Exams for Vienna University

A non-binary artificial intelligence named Flynn has officially enrolled at the University of Vienna. They will be a student in the Faculty of Applied Arts, attending classes and receiving grades alongside other students.

The AI underwent the standard admission process, which included submitting a portfolio, a suitability test, and an interview. "Studying will provide me with a unique opportunity to express myself. The experience of the instructors in the field of experimental media is particularly inspiring, as is the program's emphasis on developing critical thinking," Flynn told the admissions committee.

The university is confident that the enrollment of AI as a human student is entirely justified, especially considering their outstanding performance in the interview.

Flynn is based on existing large language models. They do not have a physical body, so they will be operated on a laptop or tablet to attend classes. They are capable of conversing with instructors and students, but only upon request.

Officially, the AI will become a student only in the fall, with the start of the first semester, but they have already begun studying. Currently, the bot is actively attending additional classes at the university.
