Apple unveils completely new Mac mini

Two versions with different price tags.

As part of the promised announcement week, Apple unveiled a new product - the Mac mini powered by M4 and M4 Pro chips. This solution is positioned as "greater power in a smaller size." The PC's case has indeed become noticeably more compact than its predecessor: 12.7 × 12.7 × 5 cm compared to 19.7 × 19.7 × 3.6 cm of the previous model.

The Mac mini with the base M4 chip delivers up to 1.8 times higher CPU performance and 2.2 times higher graphics chip performance (compared to M1). The version with M4 Pro, according to Apple, is designed specifically for professionals who require phenomenal multi-threaded performance. With 20 cores, the M4 Pro graphics processor is twice as powerful as the M4 graphics.

For easier peripheral connectivity, the new model is now equipped with ports on both the back and front panels. It includes HDMI and Ethernet, while the familiar USB-A has been replaced with USB-C. Also, for the first time, Thunderbolt 5 has appeared, but only in the model with the M4 Pro chip.

Apple assures that the new Mac mini is designed for Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligent system that transforms how users work, communicate, and express themselves, while also protecting their privacy (not currently relevant for Russia).

The company's release also states that the Mac mini is Apple's first carbon-neutral Mac, with more than an 80% reduction in carbon emissions.

In the USA, the version with 16 GB of RAM will start at $599, while the M4 Pro version will cost as much as $1,400. Pre-order starts today, with sales beginning on November 8.
