Cillian Murphy Will Star in "28 Years Later" in an Unexpected Way

The horror film will not be a literal continuation of the previous movies.

Cillian Murphy will appear in the zombie apocalypse film "28 Years Later." This was announced by one of the executives at Sony Pictures, Tom Rothman. It was previously reported that the actor would only serve as an executive producer.

However, the return of the star from the original film will be unusual. What this means remains a mystery for now. Rothman did not elaborate on the topic but added that the new horror will not be a literal continuation of "28 Days Later" and "28 Weeks Later."

Details about the plot of the threequel are not disclosed. It is currently known that it will be directed by Danny Boyle, the director of the first part. He is also known for films like "Trainspotting," "127 Hours," and "Slumdog Millionaire." The lead roles will be played by Jodie Comer ("Free Guy," "Killing Eve"), Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Bullet Train," "Kraven the Hunter"), and Ralph Fiennes ("Harry Potter," "Schindler's List").

The release of "28 Years Later" is scheduled for June 20, 2025. Sony plans to turn the reboot into a trilogy, with the second part being filmed concurrently with the first. The scripts for all three will be written by the original author, Alex Garland.
