The project has already engaged a very experienced screenwriter.

After the box office success of the film "Godzilla vs. Kong: New Empire," Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. are actively discussing a sequel. Screenwriter Dave Callaham, known for "Shang-Chi," has already been brought on board to develop the script. This was reported by THR.

Callaham has long been familiar with "Godzilla and Kong." He wrote the initial story drafts for the 2014 "Godzilla," the film that kicked off Legendary's monster mania. He also worked on "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," "Mortal Kombat," and "Unstoppable."

Whether Adam Wingard, who directed the first two films in the series, will return for the sequel remains uncertain. The situation is complicated by the fact that the director intends to work on an original film titled "Onslaught" for A24 this fall before taking on any other projects.

The blockbuster "Godzilla vs. Kong: New Empire" has already grossed $555 million worldwide at the box office. This makes it the most successful film in the franchise since "Kong: Skull Island" in 2017, which earned $568 million.
