iPhone 17 to Feature Redesign, Smaller Dynamic Island, and Slim Version

The Pro Max model will stand out even more.

According to a new report from Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, Apple is preparing significant changes in the iPhone 17 lineup next year. In a note to investors reviewed by 9to5Mac, the insider mentions an updated design for the smartphones, an improved front camera, a smaller Dynamic Island, and much more.

Pu reports that Apple will introduce a new iPhone 17 Slim model, which will replace the Plus model in the lineup. The entire series will include four smartphones:

• iPhone 17: 6.1-inch display;
• iPhone 17 Slim: 6.6-inch display;
• iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3-inch display;
• iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9-inch display.

Regarding the design, the analyst notes that the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim, and iPhone 17 Pro will feature a "more sophisticated" aluminum construction. The top-tier iPhone 17 Pro Max will still be made of titanium. This model will also receive a narrower Dynamic Island, while the other smartphones in the lineup will retain the current design.

The smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be possible thanks to new "metallizing" technology for the proximity sensor. This development will help Apple significantly reduce the size of the Face ID module.

The anticipated iPhone 17 Slim will have a "slim design." There are no additional details about the construction in the report. It is likely that Apple will focus on a thin body, trying to make this model stand out.

As for the specifications, Jeff Pu notes the following:

• iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim: 8 GB RAM, A18 or A19 chip;
• iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max: 12 GB RAM, A19 Pro chip.

Currently, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are equipped with 6 GB RAM, while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have 8 GB RAM. In the iPhone 16 this year, Apple will implement 8 GB of memory for the entire lineup.

In conclusion, the insider added that all four iPhone 17 models will be equipped with front cameras of 24 MP. This is a significant upgrade compared to the current 12-megapixel sensors.

The iPhone 17 smartphones will not be released anytime soon - approximately in a year and a half, in the fall of 2025.
