Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy captured a stunning image of the International Space Station (ISS) crossing the crescent moon. He worked during the day, which made the research complex appear illuminated by bright light and easily noticeable.

For this shot, McCarthy traveled to a remote part of the desert in Arizona (USA) and worked in exhausting heat, with the thermometer reading 41 degrees Celsius. He had to act very quickly and accurately - he knew that the ISS would only appear against the desired backdrop for a quarter of a second. The orbital station moves at a speed of 28,000 kilometers per hour.
