🇪🇺🇰🇿HR/VP Josep Borrell visits Kazakhstan
High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President Josep Borrell is visiting Central Asia in order to deepen cooperation between the EU and a key region at a time of major geopolitical change.
HR/VP began his tour of the region in the capital of Kazakhstan Astana.
💬 “Glad to mark 30 years of EU-Kazakhstan diplomatic relations with President Tokayev, which we agreed to deepen further. In 30 years, our bilateral relations have considerably progressed.
The European Union is Kazakhstan’s biggest trade and investment partner, representing over half of total Foreign Direct Investment in Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan is by far the EU’s largest trade partner in Central Asia and it has been and remains a reliable energy supplier to the EU.”
With foreign minister Tleuberdi we also reaffirmed our commitment to deepen political dialogue and cooperation, and to work on joint opportunities - such as trade, energy and the green agenda, stressing that developing a partnership in difficult times makes us stronger.
The EU supports efforts to make Kazakhstan more inclusive, democratic and open through an ambitious reform agenda. We are committed to security and peace in our regions.
