The President of Ukraine awarded the "Golden Star" order to the relatives of Lieutenant Colonel Vyacheslav Yerk for the defense of Kyiv.
On the first day of the full-scale invasion of the russians, an experienced pilot ensured the withdrawal of an aviation squadron from enemy attack, thus saving seven combat aircraft from destruction. On the same day, five of them engaged in air combat against 12 russian planes and eight helicopters, which were on their way to strike Kiev.
In the battle, Vyacheslav Yerko shot down a Su-25 aircraft and two enemy Mi-24 helicopters. During another enemy attempt to attack the capital from the air, the lieutenant colonel destroyed another Russian Su-35.
However, Vyacheslav Yerk's plane was also hit by a missile. He managed to eject, but the russian pilots, violating all the rules of armed struggle, shot him in the air
