This day, on July 17, 2014, the war in Ukraine decisively became more, than a regional matter.
The russians shot down a passenger plane of flight MH17, which was flying from Malaysia to the Netherlands. 298 passengers and crew members died. Among them were citizens of:
Australia – 27 people,
Belgium – 4,
Canada – 1,
Germany – 4,
Indonesia – 12,
Malaysia – 43,
Netherlands – 193,
New Zealand – 1,
Philippines – 3,
United Kingdom – 10.
From the beginning Ukraine have been following a single version, that russian BUK anti-air missile complex shot down the plane from the occupied territories of Donetsk oblast, while mistook it with Ukraine's military aircraft AN-26 (the related russian news release was deleted very shortly after that). In the same time, russian had been changed many version and conspiracies, trying to falsely blame Ukraine.
On November 17, 2022, the court in Hague on the MH17 case found guilty of three suspects: Girkin, Dubinsky and Kharchenko were sentenced to life imprisonment. The court also assessed the total amount of compensation to the relatives of the dead passengers and crew at more than €16 million
