Music Assistant 2.7 — Biggest update yet
Music Assistant 2.7 drops a major visual overhaul, new features, and a custom multimedia streaming protocol. If you use Home Assistant and rely on Music Assistant, this update delivers UI polish, remote streaming, user profiles, and Sendspin — a new open streaming protocol.

What's new at a glance
- Visual & UX refresh: collapsible left navigation, breadcrumbed settings navigation.
- Built-in web player: preview tracks in your browser before broadcasting to speakers.
- User profiles & single sign-on: per-user music providers, access controls, and SSO with Home Assistant.
- Remote streaming via WebRTC: connect securely from anywhere; Home Assistant Cloud improves routing but is not required.
- Sendspin protocol (tech preview): open-source, high-fidelity streaming and sync for whole-home audio.
- New source & player support: Spotify Connect integration, AirPlay 2 players, Yamaha MusicCast, Roku (Media Assistant).
- Extras: DSP presets, scrobbling (LastFM, ListenBrainz, Subsonic), new radio/podcast providers and niche services.
UI & UX improvements
The team redesigned core navigation to improve discoverability and speed. A collapsible left nav reduces clutter on smaller screens. Settings now include breadcrumbs so you never lose your place.
Key UI wins
- Collapsible navigation: cleaner layout, faster access to main sections.
- Breadcrumbs in settings: easier backtracking and fewer clicks.
Built-in player — preview before you broadcast
The new built-in player streams audio directly in your browser. Use it to check tracks before sending them to all speakers, or to listen privately without changing global playback.
Pro tip: Use the built-in player to verify content and volume before grouping speakers for whole-home playback.
User profiles, logins, and access control
Profiles let each user keep separate music providers and playlists. Single Sign-On with Home Assistant simplifies authentication while enabling per-user permissions for devices and speakers.
- Per-user music providers: avoid duplicated accounts and messy Playlists tabs.
- Speaker access control: restrict who can use specific speakers (ideal for offices or kids' zones).
- SSO support: use your Home Assistant login for seamless access.
Remote streaming & security
Remote streaming uses WebRTC through Home Assistant Cloud for robust routing. You do not need a Cloud subscription to stream remotely, but Cloud users may see better routing stability in some networks.
- Peer-to-peer, end-to-end encrypted connections.
- No mandatory Home Assistant Cloud subscription; optional benefits for subscribers.
Sendspin — the new open streaming protocol
Sendspin targets whole-home audio needs that existing protocols didn't fully solve. It streams high-fidelity audio, album art, and visualizer data while adapting to each device's capabilities. Right now it's a tech preview with browser and experimental Google Cast support.
